Built-in Tools

OpenCode has some built-in tools that you don't need to install yourself. The most important ones for day-to-day coding are:

  • read, glob, and grep for gathering context
  • edit, write, and patch for changing files
  • shell for running commands
  • webfetch and websearch for fetching pages and searching online
  • question for asking you clarifying questions (which displays a custom selector UI)
  • skill for loading reusable SKILL.md files (we'll cover these later)

A good agent harness makes it seem like the LLM is interacting directly with files and tools on the system, but it's still ultimately just text-in, text-out!

Assignment

Watch OpenCode use its tools to add a precedence test for Sloperator, meaning mathematical operations happen in the correct order. For example, 2 + 5 * 3 should evaluate to 17, not 21 (multiply first).

Tell OpenCode to run and submit the CLI tests from the project root.
