Donut Charts

A donut chart is essentially a pie chart with a hole in the middle. That's it. Really.

The hole in the middle isn't just for looks – it can be used to display a total or key metric, making the chart more informative.

Pie vs. Donut

The choice between pie and donut is mostly aesthetic. Some people find donuts easier to read because the focus shifts to the arc lengths rather than the angles. Others just think they look more modern.

Use whichever fits your dashboard's style better – just be consistent across your report.

Best Practices

Use 5 or fewer categories for readability
Make sure the measure represents parts of a whole
Use consistent colors if comparing multiple charts
Consider putting a key metric in the center hole

Assignment

On the "KPIs" page, insert a Donut chart spanning the bottom half of the page.
Update the chart to show total revenue by product category.

It's totally valid to use an aggregate measure as a "Value" in a donut/pie chart! The "Legend" field can split the aggregation across the groups.
Format the title: General → Title → Text → "Revenue by Category"
Set detail labels to "inside": Format Visual → Detail labels → Options → Position → Inside
