When it comes to color, K.I.S.S. – Keep It Simple, Stupid.

  • Consistency: Use the same color for each category across visuals.
  • Small palette: 3-5 colors is plenty for most dashboards.
  • Avoid confusion: Don't use random colors for related data, use gradients or shades.
  • Accessibility: Avoid red/green combinations that can be hard for color-blind users.
  • Branding: If there isn't a specific color that's best, use your company's or client's brand colors for those sweet-sweet suck-up points.

Your job is to bring data driven insights to your company. You're a data analyst, not a graphic designer.
