System Metrics

If you never set up another metric you should at least monitor system health metrics.

There's nothing worse than your application failing because it ran out of disk space, or crashing because it's out of memory. These types of failures are easily avoided with the absolute minimum of monitoring.

In fact, virtually every cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.) gives you some system-level monitoring, and usually alerting, out of the box.

And if you're running your own hardware, it's pretty painless to set up basic system metric monitoring out of the box with most tools.

Grafana, which we'll be using in this course, also makes it easy to do system-level monitoring.
