Custom Commands

Custom commands and skills are very similar.

Both are basically reusable prompt templates. Both help you avoid retyping the same instructions. Both can live at the project level or globally.

But there are a couple of important differences.

  • A skill is exposed through OpenCode's native skill tool, meaning it's in context and can be loaded when the agent chooses to.
  • A command is primarily a user-invoked TUI shortcut.

You run a command directly with a slash, like:

/review-changes
  • If you want something the agent can proactively choose because it's semantically relevant, that's usually a skill.
  • If you want a fast manual shortcut that only you trigger, that's usually a command.

Assignment

Tell OpenCode to run and submit the CLI tests from the project root.
