What Is Data Visualization?

Click to play video

Data visualization is... exactly what it sounds like!

It's the process of representing data in visual formats like charts, graphs, and dashboards. It makes the information easier to understand and analyze, especially for busy executives who can't be bothered by tricky things like numbers and math.

Instead of your eyes glazing over staring at numbers in a table, a good visualization will help you to see patterns, trends, and outliers at a glance.

It's really about turning data into insights. A well-designed visual can communicate complex data quickly and clearly, helping decision-makers understand what's happening and why. You, as the data analyst, create visuals, but who uses them?

Most often, these visualizations focus on key performance indicators (KPIs), which help different audiences understand how things are going:

  1. Executives and Managers: Use dashboards to monitor company performance and make strategic decisions
  2. Business Teams (Sales, Marketing, Finance, HR): Track key metrics, campaign results, or budgets in real time
  3. Clients and Stakeholders: Understand reports and insights without needing to dig into raw data
