Importing Data

Before we can start visualizing data, we need to get our hands on some data!

CSV files are simple text files that store data in a structured format, making them easy to read and write and very common for exporting rows and columns of data from databases or spreadsheets. Let's download the CSVs that we'll be using throughout this course and import the first one into our Power BI project.

Assignment

Download the bundle of CSV files – a ZIP archive – and extract its contents into the folder that you made for this course. Make sure you have all seven CSV files at the root of the same directory where you saved eshopp.pbip.
In Power BI, with the eshopp report open, go to Home → Get Data → Text/CSV.
Select our downloaded customers.csv file and click Open. You should see a preview of the data.
Click "Load" to import the data into Power BI.
Before creating a visual, let's check out our data to make sure it looks right. Click on the "Table view" to see the data in columns and rows:
To make sure that Power BI actually saves metadata in the format we expect, go into the "Model view" on the left sidebar. Click on the header of the new customers table, and drag it to a new position on the canvas. Any slight change of position will do.

Save the project. Then, from the root of your course directory, submit the CLI tests.
